Leadership Lessons I Learned This Week

The week of 02.01.10 proved to be a great week for some key leadership lessons. Not rocket science, just personal reflection to improve my life.
Here are my TOP FIVE.
- It is much more rewarding and fulfilling to associate with goal achieving people. Focus 90+% of my time with these people.
- The Chinese Proverb “If you hunt two rabbits, both will escape” is so true. Multi-tasking does not work well for me. I MUST focus on one thing at a time.
- To lift yourself above the average, go two extra steps farther than everyone else in everything you do. Competition at higher levels of performance is not that high.
- Giving my full attention to my children is so rewarding for them and for me. I have almost completely eliminated television from my life, except for inspiring and educational movies. I am getting rid of my blackberry and down-sizing to a basic, “old school” phone. I believe I am becoming a better father due to this new focus.
- Being happy and high performing in your job correlates with other aspects of your life. I cannot turn “on and off” the attitude I choose at work, at home, at the gym. I am not wired to do this.
